Health & International Development Group

The Health and International Development group draws its membership from a number of areas across Flinders University and University of South Australia. At present, a three-year action research project is underway in south India , the Healthy Districts Project. This Myer Foundation-funded project is in partnership with UniSA and Madras Christian College, India.

The group is developing a research proposal to investigate the health implications for Indian international fee-paying students of their student experience and expectations for migration to Australia. The research project will draw on the social determinants of health, the stages of the migration process and resilience, as key concepts. It is also supporting research into the health implications of, and contributing factors to the high birth rate in East Timor , post conflict and post independence.

In addition to these early activities, the International Health and Development group will relate to all the partners in the Centre for International Social Work, which is an international human rights-based consortium of universities from India, Taiwan , Philippines , Canada , USA and in the near future, Botswana, as well as Flinders DPH and UniSA.
